Walking distance: 8 Km
Duration of the walk: 4,5 hours
Duration of the tour: 8 Hours

This excursion gives the opportunity to reach one of the most beautiful beaches of Sardinia. The guides of Jebel Sardinia pick you up and manage the transfer from town to the mountains. We start our trek at the area of “Buchi arta”, where we will see some old sheep-folds featured by the typical building technique, here called “Su pinnettu”. We descend a gorge walking by giant old Juniper trees and surrounded by the Mediterranean scrub, time by time the path gives us evocative panoramas over the savage Supramonte and we arrive at the wide canyon of “Codula di Luna”. After that, the trail follows the dry river bed until we arrive at the beautiful beach of Cala Luna, famous for its beauty. There we will have time to have a merited lunch and a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear sea. After lunch we will hike back to the car walking on a steep path, this is the harder part of the trekking. Total duration of the trek is around 4 hours and a half

For those who want to spend more time on the beach, there is the opportunity to get the harbor of Cala Gonone by boat having a nice trip in the Golfo di Orosei and making the hike less tiring.

We leave from Orosei, driving the SS 125 we arrive at “Su cungiadeddu” (830 meters AMSL) we start driving off-road to descend in the valley where the path begins. We start the hike wading the Flumineddu river to enter in the woodland formed by Olm oaks, Arbutus and Mediterranean scrub. Walking along the cliffs of Monte Oddeu we get the entrance of the Gorroppu gorge in less than 2 hours. You will be astonished walking by the rocky walls which rise for more than 400 meters over the dry river bed, the Gorrupu canyon is one of the deepest canyons in Europe and today it is the natural border between the territory of Urzulei and Orgosolo. The Flumineddu river excavated the giurassic limestones originated when Sardinia was truly covered by the sea; the marine origin of the rocks is testified by fossils of ammonites, fish and algae found in the area. During the trekking we will discover the unique microclimate of the canyon that allowed the giant growth of some trees like the Phyllirea and the old Yew tree; there is besides an endemic grass, the Acquilegia di Gorropu (Aquilegia nuragica), present in very few individuals inside the canyon. When the path becomes more rough the hike become harder, sometimes we use the hands to proceed through the boulders then, when it is no longer possible to go further, we get back on our steps
