If your aim is to discover Salento in the deep, this is the tour that suits your expectations. You will visit two gems of Salento territory, the elegant city of Galatina, 20 km far from Lecce, famous for the Basilica of Saint Catherine and its frescoes and the cosy Otranto, on the Adriatic coast, with its legacies of the Turkish invasion. Art and history are not enough to catch the soul of a region; you need to savor its aromas and flavors, especially if you are in one of the best Italian regions for oil and wine production. Your professional, local guide, will lead you in a typical farmhouse, the so called "masseria" to discover how people lived and worked two centuries ago. Inside you could visit the old oil mill, underneath, the bottaia, the placee were wine is left aging. This will be also the location for a sensorial tasting of local food and wine.
This will be a unique experience to enjoy Salento and its peculiarities!

Stop At: Centro storico di Galatina, Galatina, Province of Lecce, Puglia

Discover Galatina and its artistic jewels including old residences with rich portals and balconies, the Chapel of Saint Paul in which the ritual hypnotic dancing of the tarantate was held and eventually the main monument of the town, the Basilica of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria, one of the most significant works of architecture in the whole Salento with cycles of unequaled frescoes on the walls, arches and vaults similar to the Franciscan church of Assisi.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: L'Astore Masseria, Cutrofiano, Province of Lecce, Puglia

Visit a typical "masseria" , a local farm dated back to 1800, still in operation with the production of oil and autoctone wine. You will feel the warm hospitality of the family that owns this farm since 1935. Here you will visit the hypogeum crusher and the vinery, take a wine tasting in the "bottaia", the place where the barrels are stored, inebriated by scents of aging wines and have lunch surrounded by the peace and sounds of the surrounding countryside. Each course will be accompanied by the wine produced in the farmhouse. You will sip samples of autoctone grapes like "Primitivo", "Negramaro", "Susumaniello" and will learn about viticulture in the region.

Your first stop in this driven tour will be in Galatina. Galatina is the city in which testimonies of the Latin and Greek cultures coexist in harmony, mingling with the magic-esoteric "tarantism", which is why the city rites can be called an "outdoor museum" and in 2005 was declared City of Art. One of the most important buildings is the Church of Santa Caterina, a fresco jewel in Gothic-Byzantine style and therefore declared National Monument; and the Mother Church dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.
Then there are the numerous palaces in precious and elegant Baroque style; the three gates of the city, only evidence of the ancient city walls, and the three Basilian crypts intended as places of worship and abode by the Basilian monks.
After Galatina, your driver will take you to Cantina L'Astore in Cutrofiano, about 100 hectares of vineyards and olive groves, where you can have lunch and taste local wines.
Finally, your driver will take you to Gallipoli, the tourist center for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear water.
Gallipoli is a trendy town that still keeps the atmosphere of the ancient fishing village. Its name derives from the greek "Kalé polis", which means "beautiful city" and is in fact called Pearl of the Ionian Sea. The old town is situated on a limestone island connected to the mainland by a stone bridge, and it is a continuous overlapping of building structures of various periods and different cultural backgrounds. The architecture of the buildings enchants with its wonderful Baroque style, characterized by sumptuous decorations with floral motifs and angels and the use of Carparo, a calcareous stone that comes from the cementation of limestone sediments, usually in the marine environment.
After a walk downtown, we strongly recommend a stop in Piazza della Dogana, home to the folklorist fish market. Every day the fishermen open their oily fish shoals, sea bream and sea bass, groupers and octopuses. You will find a mix of perfumes and silver fish that contrast with the bright colors of the boats and the blue sea.
At the end of the walk your chauffeur will be waiting to take you back to the meeting point in Lecce at 4.30pm
