Travel with Piero Pagliardini, a native of Sant' Angelo in Vado, Marche as your guide on a cultural tasting through Le Marche. This incredible tour will feature wine tastings, cheese tastings, sampling of wonderfully cured meats, gelato and much more. You’ll visit food markets, historic cheese shops, and see artisans at work.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up in Rome FCO, check-in, Aperitif and Dinner at the best pizzeria in town.

Stop At: Teatro Zuccari, Sant'Angelo in Vado, Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Marche
-Arrival (*Rome, FCO is the recommended airport).
-Piero will meet and escort you to Hotel Taddeo e Federico in the heart of the beautiful village, Sant’Angelo in Vado. The hotel is within walking distance of shops, markets, and restaurants. Take time to unpack, settle in before meeting for dinner.
- In the evening, our host and native Marchigiano, Piero Pagliardini, will welcome you over drinks and give an overview of the week to come. Then pizza night! Enjoy the best pizza in town in an authentic Italian pizzeria. A stroll, a nightcap, and a good night’s sleep

Day 2: Tour of the village, the Roman Villa Domus of Mith, and a swim in the natural pools on river Metauro

Stop At: Osteria Del Boscaiolo
-Enjoy a local breakfast of cappuccino and fresh pastries at the hotel.
-You'll have the morning to explore the village, including the opportunity to visit a Roman Villa, “Domus of Mith” the “Museo dei mestieri” and other local museums.
-Regional Lunch at the hotel restaurant.
-In the afternoon, we'll visit some sites for some panoramic photography of Italy’s unique country side. We will travel through the village towns along the Metauro River to experience the beauty of nature. Scenes will included rolling landscapes, remnants of a historical village – Castello della Pieve, and concluding in a walk through the Metauro River itself. Trek through blue lagoons and navigate miniature waterfalls as we get our feet wet and learn the history of the area. Bring your swim suit and water shoes. Traditional Italian merenda to follow in a truly off-the-beaten-path location!

Day 3: Visit to the Open Air Market and cheese tasting at the infamous Vittorio Beltrami Cheese Shop

Stop At: Cartoceto - Teatro del Trionfo, Cartoceto, Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Marche
-Breakfast at the hotel, and then off to stroll through the traveling open-air market!
-Lunch at the Enoteca, in the heart of the market, featuring fried fish, salami, cheese and prosecco.
-That afternoon we will drive through the Le Marche countryside for a trip to Cartoceto, a village famous for the best and only DOP olive oil imported from Le Marche. We'll visit the inimitable Vittorio Beltrami, "The Einstein of Cheese," says Lydia Bastianich, and not just because he looks like Albert Einstein but because he is a genius cheese maker. His pecorino di fossa - a sheep’s milk cheese wrapped in grape leaves, and buried under stone for 90 days is indescribably intense, earthy and like nothing you have ever tasted. From the cheese cellar, we'll walk over to his shop where the family Beltrami will prepare us an in-depth sampling of the Beltrami cheeses, cured meats, and breads, with wine pairings along with house made sweets.

Day 4: Tour of a Medieval Village, lunch at Castello della Pieve, wine tastings, and sampling of smoked passito

Stop At: Castello della Pieve, Mercatello sul Metauro, Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Marche
Morning outing to Mercatello sul Metauro, the Medieval village to the east of Le Marche.
-Authentic lunch at Castello della Pieve, the characteristic medieval castle. In 1301 Dante Alighieri’s exile was decreed from this tiny village.
-Return to Sant’Angelo in Vado for a private wine tasting of some of the finest examples of Marchigiano wines. We'll sample biodynamic reds, such as, Pergola Rosso and Sangiovese dei Colli Pesaresi, to the white Bianchello del Metauro, named after the river that winds through Le Marche. We'll also drink the only smoked passito in the world!
-Continue the tastings over dinner at the local Osteria.

Day 5: Visit to the mysterious Church of the Dead and Festival,“Shopping di Sera” a festival with music and artisan stands

Stop At: Chiesa dei Morti, Urbania, Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Marche
-Outing to neighboring village of Urbania to visit ceramic artisans boutiques and food shops. We explore the village and enjoy samples of olives, cheese, and Porchetta. Explore all the ceramic studios and then we'll visit the mysterious Church of the Dead.
-Another delicious regional lunch will be provided on site.
-Meet back at the hotel to experience “Shopping di Sera,” an evening festival with music, pop-up stands and dinner in the streets.

Day 6: Step back in time to the Renaissance with a visit to Urbino. Visit to Ducal Palace and Raphael's house.

Stop At: Palazzo ducale, Urbino, Province of Pesaro and Urbino, Marche
-Free time in the morning to buy souvenirs, gifts, and truffle inspired goodies to stash in your suitcase.
-Lunch on your own. Piero will be available to make recommendations.
-We'll meet in the afternoon to drive to Urbino.
-We will meet Paolo, an art historian with a deep and passionate knowledge of all things Ducale. We'll see the frescos, frieze work, important paintings, and architecture of the high Renaissance at the spectacular Palazzo Ducale. In a loose yet structured manner, we'll wander the main squares and winding medieval pathways and pay a visit to Raphael’s childhood home. You will be immersed in local color, texture, and flavors (while eating everything in sight) as well as examining architectural motifs, contemporary art, and design, that will inspire your art.
-Dinner at our favorite restaurant “Ristorante Il Leone”, followed by gelato on the square!

Raphaels home is amazing. A lot of the furniture is original and there is a lot or painting as well as artifacts from everyday life of that time. The house also contains a fantastic fresco attributed to a young Raphael demonstrating his talent even at an early age. A great step way back in time!

Day 1: Sirolo – Conero Riviera
Arrival in Sirolo, a beautiful medieval town situated between the green of the mountain and the blue sea, is considered ” the pearl of the Adriatic”. The scenario is the one of the Conero Riviera, at the foot of a mountain that rises suddenly overlooking the sea, with white pebble beaches and azure sea. After settling on a farmhouse /guesthouse, free time for a visit before dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 2: Trekking to Natural Park of Gola della Rossa e di Frasassi
After breakfast, ready for a full-day guided walking itinerary from Pierosara to the Gola di Frasassi and the Gola della Rossa awaits you. On this beautiful trek you may sight a golden eagle or wolf, and will visit the Cave of Frasassi which houses the hermitage of Infra Saxa and small temple of Valadier. Enjoy the view of the Gorge of Frassis through the curious Foro degli Occhialoni and from atop Mount Murano where you will reach the Cave of Vernino. Finally, visit the quaint village of Serra San Quirico and the Cave of Frasassi, home to the famous Nativity Scene of Genga.

 Day 3: Trekking on Conero Natural Park & Wine Tasting
After breakfast, departure for Mount Conero where you and your guide will hike from the former convent of the Camaldoli monks up to the beach of Sassi Neri (Black Rocks), one of the most beautiful stretches of the Adriatic coast. The trail passes through perfumed Mediterrenean brush where you can taste the native Corbezzolo fruits and admire the many hues of the mountain’s indigenous plants such as Lentisco and Cisto.
For the grand finale you will visit the fascinating Caves of Camerano, a mysterious underground village whose ancient tunnels reveal epic tales, and enjoy a tasting of regional Rosso Conero wines in the cellar. Accommodation, dinner at leisure and overnight in your B&B.
