Enjoy Perugia and its gorgeous views with the vibrant colors of sunset as a backdrop. Don't forget your camera for this walking tour!

Meet your guide in front of Maggiore Fountain, in the heart of the beautiful and lively 'Acropolis' of Perugia. Here at Porta Sole, a fantastic viewpoint, is the perfect spot for an introduction to the long history of Perugia. At the highest point of the hill you can see where the first stone of Perugia was laid, centuries before the foundation of Rome. Soon you will reach Piazza Grimana, home of the Etruscan Arch, the most important entrance to the ancient walls of Perugia. This 2300-year-old stone arch, made by the Etruscans on the northern side of the city, is considered one of the first arches in what is now Italy's history and a masterpiece of pre-roman architecture. We will walk along the Etruscan walls, learning about the ancient aqueduct, one of the most interesting spots of the city, with the warm colors of the sunset as a backdrop.

Make your way through picturesque alleys to reach Piazza IV Novembre, the center of Perugia since the Etruscan period. Here, you will visit some of the most important monuments of the city: the Maggiore Fountain with its medieval sculptures, the Gothic Cathedral of St Lawrence, and the Priori's Palace, a masterpiece of medieval civil architecture.

Take a pleasant walk along Corso Vannucci to reach the viewpoint of the Carducci Gardens, right on top of the huge Rocca Paolina. The fortress is one of the hidden treasures of Perugia, an incredible underground city accessible through a small entrance in Piazza Italia. Your tour ends at the 'Covered Market' terrace, where the guide will give you some useful tips to enjoy food, wine and the vibrant nightlife of Perugia.

Perugia is the capital of Umbria and one of the local hill towns. It is a city full of charme and history. With your private guide you will walk along its city wall dating from the Etruscan age, get lost in the symbols carved by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano's into the Fontana Maggiore and find yourself fascinated by the many layers of the Rocca Paolina.

Perugia is a city full of charme and history. Every ancient gate, alley, piazza, palazzo and church will capture your imagination; and every museum and gallery will impress you with a sense of history, culture and art. Perugia is not just a stuffy old showcase of the ancient, it also has a young, vibrant and energetic feel. Perugia is the site of many festivals and concerts, the most important of which are the annual fall Chocolate festival and the summer Umbria Jazz festival, lending the city to a chic and urbane atmosphere unmatched by other Italian cities.

Meeting point will be at Piazza Italia, from there we will go first exploring the different strata of Rocca Paolina – the so called 'Perugia underground'. Once back to the city centre, there will be a stop at a famous old fashioned but very traditional coffee shop for an espresso or a cappuccino topped with hand whipped cream.

The tour will focus on the main fountain – Fontana Maggiore – together with the other buildings standing in the square.
