Our destination today is the southern part of the Island in surch of the undiscovered part of Sicily where the inspector was created about 15 years ago by the Sicilian author Andrea Camilleri.

In the morning visit of Punta Secca, one of a string of pleasant seaside resorts south-east of Scoglitti, where the inspector’s seaside house has become a place of pilgrimage for Montalbano fans. You can even stay here: bowing perhaps to the inevitable, the owners have turned the beachside villa into the friendly but fairly basic b&b Casa di Montalbano.

We will continue to Scicli, one of the richest towns in the history of the province Iblea. We will walk through the town center with its interesting buildings of the eighteenth century: the church of S. Ignatius in Baroque style, the church of St. Bartholomew, and the Palace Beneventano.Via Mormino Penna came just to be part of the assets protected by UNESCO. Lunch free.

In the afternoon, we will continue to Ragusa Ibla. We will start from the upper town and then go through the steps of Santa Maria delle Scale, rich Sicilian Baroque, declared World Heritage Site by Unesco. Among the churches and palaces there are certainly worthy of attention of the Church of Souls in Purgatory, Cosentini Palace, the Church of Santa Maria dell'Itria, The Rock Palace, the Church of St. George, the Conversation Club, the Church of St. Joseph, St. George Portal.

The Vendicari Nature Reserve is a wet zone and one of the most important passing places for migratory birdlife in the Mediterranean area. The hike sets off from the entrance in a southerly and northerly direction of the reserve, across marked trails which follow the sandy and rocky coast, allowing us to visit the lagoons and some ex-salt wetlands and to recognize the native flora of salty and dune habitats. Furthermore, it will be possible to watch the migratory and stationary fauna through binoculars in special huts, such as wild ducks, herons, pink flamingos and many other birds. Besides, it'll be interesting to visit ancient buildings and archaeological remains like the old Tuna factories, disused since 1943 because of the war.

The Sveva tower, which takes its name from its shape It was actually built during the Spanish domination of the island in the 1300s against pirate raids. The Hellenistic age fish factory which is built from pools carved into stone near the sea, for the preparation of 'Garum', a sauce made from leftovers from fish caught.

A unique adventure to discover Pantalica, that really represents the area of Sicily where the union between 'nature and history' is clearly made real. Evocative limestone canyons ('cave' in local dialect) hide endless clearwater streams, lush river vegetation and vertical rockfaces dotted with some 5000 tombs carved into the rock that can be found amid the varied Mediterranean craggy bush vegetation: thus describing in a few words the largest European necropolis, recently listed as a UNESCO site. A beautiful trail carved into the rock will take you to visit the ancient pre-Hellenic and Byzantine settlements, the Pipistrelli (bats) cave and the old disused railway line, next to wonderful mirror like pools adorned by lush vegetation.

Noto, in the province of Syracuse,  is one of the "baroque jewels" of the island. Thanks to the magnificent architectural details of its churches and nobiliary buildings, the town  belongs to the world culture heritage list of Unesco. The town is also known as "stone garden".

Noto was built from the year 1693, after a tremendous heartquake which destroyed the ancient medieval town. For this reason, the town center was built in an uniform baroque style. The "corso" starts at the Porta Reale, a nice arch of triumph in neoclassic style, built in the mid of the 19th century for the visit of the king Ferdinand II of Bourbon. Walking along the main street you wull entcounter an impressing sequence of sumptuous religious buildings: the San Francesco all'Immacolata church, the Santissimo Salvatore monastery, the Santa Chiara church.

In the main square it's possible to visit the imponent cathedral of San Nicolò. The cathedral of Noto is famous for the collapse of its dome in 1996. After long restoration works the cathedral was rebuilt in its originary form and using the same golden limestone which is typical of this area. In the same square it's also possible to visit Palazzo Ducezio, the town hall and to admire the archbishop's palace and palazzo Landolina di Santalfano. Continuing the walk on the main street, you will se the baroque San Carlo Borromeo church and in front of it, via Nicolaci. This street is famous for  palazzo Nicolaci, a nobiliary building with wonderful baroque balconies. The "corso" ends with the elegant fontana d'Ercole (fountain of Hercules), the baroque San Domenico church and the neoclassic theater.
