Trekking in the Valley of Mount Rosa from Arona

Trekking in the Valley of Mount Rosa from Arona - Lake Maggiore, Italy

Duration: 7 hours
Location: Lake Maggiore, Italy

From USD
$70.83

The Monte Rosa is the most extensive massif of the Alps, the second highest in Europe; one of the most beautiful and accessible valleys is Otro Valley.

This is a ’hanging valley’ due to a typical morphology produced by glacial erosion and also for the views that you can admire.

In the large plateau (altitude around 1,660 m), framed by a jagged range of mountains including Tagliaferro (2964 m asl) and the White Horn, (3320 m asl), are six small villages preserving beautiful examples of Walser architecture. A splendid little church of the XVI century, the richly frescoed façade, surrounded by the typical mountain chalets and dominated by the peaks is the first image upon arriving.

Itinerary:

Trekking from Alagna to Pranmisura (2:00 hours)
Back to Alpe Follù (45 mins)
Stop for lunch lunch (lunch not included)
Free time in the afternoon for visits or trekking to viewpoint of the old cable car (40 mins go and back)
Return to the starting point and the car around 4:45pm
Transfer by car back to Arona.

The cottage is located in a natural terrace on the slopes of mountain Tagliaferro (2964 m asl) and it offers a spectacular panoramic view of 360 ° with a magnificent view over the Mount Rosa massif.

The Alpe Sattal is an old cottage recently restored by a man who wanted to live intensely in this place. In 1995, after crossing for three years the Italian Alps in their length and breadth, in summer and winter, with only a tent and big passion, he stopped right here where he built his home with his own hands by restoring an old house in ruin. The continuous contact with wonderful and rugged nature, the unchanging flow of the seasons, simple life and genuine people needing nothing more than the beauty around them to feel satisfied, are the reasons that led him to live there.

Today, besides being intimate and welcoming, it is one of very few ’refuges’ of the Alps that are open all year. In winter, covered by a thick blanket of snow, the small hut really takes on the appearance of a warm, reassuring and at the same time isolated and fierce eagle’s nest.

Itinerary:

Trek from Alagna to Alpe Sattal (2 hours)
Stop for lunch lunch (lunch not included)
Afternoon free time for visit
Return to the starting point and the car around 16:45
Transfer by car back to Arona.

Go on a scenic hike from Italy into Switzerland with this 7-hour trekking excursion from Arona. The trail leads up to Staldhorn Peak and this 1-2 hour hike is very easy. It starts from the highest point of the western Alps accessible by car: The Simplon Pass at 2005 meters. Consequently, the itinerary is one of the most panoramic and spectacular of all.

Meet your guide in Arona, or get picked up at your Arona hotel, to begin this wonderfully scenic hike.

Drive with your group up to the Simplon Pass, the highest point on this trail that can be reached by car. From there, hike up to Staldhorn Peak - a trek of 1-2 hours. The path is steep but very safe and is easy to get to the cross on the summit.

At the summit, the panorama offers a full view of beautiful mountains, rocks, glaciers, and the Swiss Alto Vallese. In the summer season, without snow, it is possible to change the destination substituting the peak of the Staldhorn (2462 meters) with that of Spitzhorli (2726 meters) because the first, in the absence of snow, is quite easy to hike.

Stop for lunch (own expense) and then return to the car for the return drive back to Arona.
